Oak Tree
Matthew Taylor
Under an oak tree. Under an oak tree where I broke a branch at age eleven. I broke a branch at age eleven and made a slingshot. I made a slingshot and shot rocks at birds. I shot rocks at birds and hit one. I hit one and it made a noise. It made a noise and I broke the slingshot. I broke the slingshot and ran home. I ran home and I forgot until today.
Under an oak tree today I am talking to my sister. My sister is asking me about when she was fourteen and if I knew that her and him did it together under this oak tree. She asks me this and I say I didn't know that, and I didn't know that. She says what would you of done if you woulda known and I say I woulda torn his pecker off is what I would of done. Today she laughs and we wonder how is his health and is he still around.
Today under an oak tree we look different ways for a while. Once I broke a branch here and shot a bird with a rock. Once in the starlight here my sister's young body fumbled against another in the grass. Today I feel old today.
